3. What is a Nurse Aide?

Nurse Aide (STNA/CNA) positions are entry-level jobs in the nursing field. Oftentimes no prior healthcare work experience is required aside from the classroom and practice hours needed to complete a state-approved Nurse Aide training program. Working under the supervision of registered nurses (RN) or licensed practical nurses (LPN), Nurse Aides do not generally earn as high a salary as other nursing professions. However, becoming a Nurse Aide is an excellent way to quickly enter the healthcare profession, provide important basic care to patients in need, and determine if a nursing career is right for you.

4. Is a Nurse Aide (STNA/CNA) the same as a Medical Assistant (MA)?

While both Nurse Aides and Medical Assistants provide support to patients in the healthcare/clinical settings, their responsibilities differ. Nurse Aides will spend most of their time engaged in direct patient care while the MA has both administrative and clinical duties.

5. Is Nurse Aide a degree program?

The Nurse Aide program is not a degree program. Upon successful completion of a NATCEP, students will receive a Certificate of Completion and will be eligible to register for the state nurse aide test.

6. How do I get my STNA certification?

The State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) exam is administered by D&S Diversified Technologies on behalf of the state of Ohio to certify nurse aides. Potential nurse aides must schedule, pay for and pass the STNA exam. This exam consists of a written and oral exam and a skills test which enables you to be placed on the state's nurse registry and make you eligible to work in the state. In order to schedule your STNA exam, you must fill out and send in some specific paperwork.
